Getting around inside the Disney parks and resorts

There is an internal shuttle service available to hotel guests. Shuttles are marked with signs and a flashing yellow light, and operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

If driving is not for you while on vacation, WDW has a large and efficient fleet of air-conditioned buses shuttling people between the theme and water parks and the various resorts. Although there is no timetable for the buses per se, wait times are usually between 10 and 20 minutes for a particular bus. There are multiple bus stations at most resorts, and the stations at the parks are within a short walk of the main entrances. While the buses are very good at getting you from a resort to a park, but they are not very good at getting you from one resort to another. To go from one resort to another by bus, you have to go from the first resort to a theme park, then change for a bus to the other resort.

If you are going to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot, then you will most likely be riding the monorail. Part transportation system, part tourist attraction, the Mark VI monorails glide from the Transportation and Ticket Center (or TTC) to either the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. The monorails to the Magic Kingdom also make stops at three of the premiere resorts at WDW: the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary and the Polynesian. It is sometimes possible to ride in the nose section of the monorail with the driver — just ask the station attendants if there is room, and if there is, you get one of the best scenic rides at WDW!

Boats seem to be everywhere at WDW. One shuttles passengers from Epcot’s World Showcase to the Boardwalk, the Yacht and Beach Clubs, the Swan and Dolphin hotels, and the Disney-MGM Studios. Another takes you from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom. A third takes you from Wilderness Lodge and the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds to the Magic Kingdom. Two lines leave Downtown Disney from the Village Marketplace, one for Old Key West and Saratoga Springs, the other for Port Orleans. Be cautioned, however, that it is a fairly long walk between the boat docks and the main park entrances.
